An atoll is a ring-shaped island or reef, or sometimes a chain of islands or reefs. Atolls are commonly found in tropical or subtropical parts of oceans and seas where corals develop.

Atolls are popular destinations for tourists, as they are quite idyllic and unlike most other places on earth.

Perhaps the nicest atolls to visit are those found in the Maldives. Many honeymooners and luxury holiday-makers find their way to the Baa Atoll or Raa Atoll for instance.
